For the Reader

I’m Back, Baby!

Just in time for my favorite time of the year, I’m back to blogging. I love the fall – we’ve transformed our front lawn into a grave yard, my cell phone is customized with creepy ring towns and wallpaper and the cooler weather is perfect for my autumn casserole.

While writing this television treatment for me book series was a months-long punch to the gut, I’m glad it’s finished with it. A few tweaks here and there and I will be able to send it off to my amazing agent to see if she can find someone interested in making this into a series. Writing for television is completely different than novel writing and that was my biggest hurdle on this treatment. Trying to encapsulate the entire series in a few sentences here or a page there was a monumental task. If there series never gets made, I know that at least I tried my hardest to make it a reality. I’m glad I created the treatment and I am hoping for the best it works out.

So here are a few more things that have been happening:

It’s been an exciting few weeks!  books have been honored with several awards since I last wrote:

FALLING STAR is a Finalist of the Canadian Book Club Awards in the Young Adult Category! The winning book will be announced in December.

FALLING STAR was honored as a Finalist in the American Fiction Awards.

RISING STAR was named Distinguished Favorite of the NYC Big Book Awards in the Teen Category

BURNING BRIGHT won the Teen Category of the NYC Big Book Awards in the Teen Category. There’s an awards dinner next June and I can’t wait to meet the other winners!

Every award is a really big deal for an unknown writer. Since my sales are still small and reviews are scarce, they’re a good measure of if my work is resonating with readers.

I also appeared in my first televised Interview with Mike Briggs on Briggs on Books which was a blast.

Life is good – school back in session and I’m back to writing a book. We have soccer weekends, flag football weekdays and my advanced math skills are being tested as I try to help our son with his advanced math homework. There is a reason why I was a theater major…

Looking forward to sharing more about my new book series in next week’s post. And I’m going to start working on the Halloween twist to FALLING STAR which I’ll post at the end of the month.

Hope you’ve been doing great. Drop me a note and let me know what you’ve been up to.

Happy Halloween Season! 🎃
