I lovethe new year! Popping champagne, staying up until midnight, saying goodbye to the old year and welcoming in the new. Reminiscing about the last twelve months while dreaming of what might be in the year to come. And I love making resolutions. It’s like a reset button for the new year – what do I want to accomplish or maybe what would I love to change about myself?
When I was younger my resolutions were never really thought out, like giving up French fries or swearing (both preposterous ideas). They were usually hastily imagined after a few drinks right before the stroke of midnight. Within two weeks I’d usually failed, shamed by my lack of will-power.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve discovered the best resolutions for me are ones I actually have a shot at keeping. Ones that are realistic but just a hint outside my comfort zone. So with that in mind, here are my resolutions for 2021:
1. Publish The Second Book In MySeries– I’m furiously polishing my manuscript now. I’m hoping I can see it published by the end of the year.
2. Finish The Final Book In My Series– I’m already working on my third book in my head as I wrap up the second book. I’d love to be able to complete that manuscript and finish my YA series.
3. Use My Annoyed Voice Less– You know exactly which voice I’m talking about. That voice we use when we’re annoyed, stressed or can’t believe someone is asking us such a stupid question. We fool ourselves that it’s not that rude and that it’s better than snapping or yelling. But we all know we’re not fooling anyone. I hope that by trying to use that voice less, I can think before I speak and remember that not the words I use, but the way they are delivered, is important.
4. Say “Yes” More– Too often I pass on new things or unexpected plans because I have too much to do, it’s too much of an effort or I’m just being lazy. But more often than not, when I say yes to unexpected plans or new experiences, I am pleasantly surprised. I want to say yes more this year, try new things and be more open. Especially after a year of mourning the people I lost and dealing with the pandemic, I think saying yes to the unexpected is just what I need to shake things up and find inspiration in my life.
Whatever your new year’s resolution, I wish you a healthy, happy and peaceful 2021.
